Taking Breaks

I think it’s important to ‘take a break.’  We all get caught up in our activities of daily life.  Some of you are much more busier than I am these days, but I try.  My biggest problem is staying focused.  There are distractions.  Like starting one thing and then finding at least 10 more projects in the making.  I admit to having a lot of projects.  But I find taking a break is a good thing.  You can go back and review and think about what’s most important and get a fresh start.  Breaks are just good for a lot of things.  Today I decided to take a break from sorting mail, filing etc, and from searching in the garage for craft items, and from ripping out a huge mistake on my current quilt, so I got to searching for some special iris to add to my garden.
Well, here it is:

CHARIOTS OF FIRE (This picture was taken from the Iris garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.)
Why would anyone name an iris ‘Chariots of Fire’?  Haven’t found the history on that yet.  There are lots of references to chariots of fire throughout mythology and more importantly in the Bible.  So here are some to think about.

Isaiah 66:15
See, the LORD is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
Joel 2:5
With a noise like that of chariots they leap over the mountaintops, like a crackling fire consuming stubble, like a mighty army drawn up for battle.

2 Kings  6 (NIV) 15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.  16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”   17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

2 Kings 2:11-12 (KJV)

11And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
Swing Low Sweet Chariot
I looked over Jordan,
And WHAT did I see,
Comin' for to carry me home,
A band of angels comin' after me,
Comin' for to carry me home.
If you get there before I do,
Comin' for to carry me home,
Tell all my friends I'm comin' too,
Comin' for to carry me home.
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Comin' for to carry me home;
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Comin' for to carry me home.
WOW, WHAT A WAY TO GO!
I’ve got to get back to work now.  Break’s over.
